Album Notes & Community Reviews

Capturing the Arkestra during their pivotal Chicago period, this early full-length effort showcases a fascinating blend of conventional bop harmony with the bandleader's increasingly eccentric, highly arranged space-age concepts. The intricate horn voicings and advanced rhythmic concepts are flawlessly executed, proving the ensemble's immense technical capabilities before their full descent into the avant-garde. It is a highly accessible, deeply swinging introduction to his vast sonic universe.
