Album Notes & Community Reviews

Recorded in a single April session at RLA Studio in New York with engineer Richard Alderson, 'The Heliocentric Worlds of Sun Ra, Volume One' brought the Arkestra to a commercial label after ESP founder Bernard Stollman heard the band at the October Revolution concerts. Its seven pieces deploy bass marimba, timpani and piccolo alongside the reeds, with John Gilmore doubling on timpani, in pursuit of Ra's cosmic philosophy.
