Album Notes & Community Reviews
Released on Amiri Baraka's fiercely independent Jihad label, 'Sonny's Time Now' is a blistering, uncompromising document of the New York avant-garde. Drummer Sunny Murray leads an explosive ensemble featuring Albert Ayler and Don Cherry through entirely unstructured, rhythmically liberated free jazz improvisations. The album notably features a powerful, radical poetry reading by Baraka, cementing the session's deep ties to the Black Arts Movement.
