Fontainebleau

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Conceived as a highly ambitious, entirely composed suite devoid of traditional improvised solos, this project brilliantly showcases the leader's immense architectural genius. The beautifully orchestrated, highly impressionistic movements utilize dense, sophisticated horn voicings to evoke the aristocratic elegance of the famous French chateau. The incredibly elegant, deeply swinging record highlights the composer's profound ability to merge complex European structuralism with the hard-driving vocabulary of modern jazz.
