Album Notes & Community Reviews

Tex Ritter, the first country artist signed to Capitol in 1942 and a veteran of 85 films by 1945, issued 'Songs from the Western Screen' as his first full-length LP, catalogue number T-971. The collection draws on the film songs that defined his singing-cowboy career, a body of work anchored by his recording of the 'High Noon' theme, which he performed at the first televised Academy Awards ceremony in 1953 when the song won the Oscar for Best Song. He was hosting the television programme Town Hall Party from 1953 to 1960 at the time of the album's release.
