Stepping away from the hypnotic, drawn-out drones of their earlier catalog, the Texas outfit embraced a tighter, much more delicate pop structure for this release. 'Know by Heart' relies heavily on chiming vibraphones, whispered vocals, and driving, minimalist drum beats heavily indebted to krautrock. The result is an incredibly soothing, meticulously crafted album that feels both quietly melancholic and warmly reassuring.
