Album Notes & Community Reviews
Propelled by the massive commercial success of the shimmering single 'Slight Return', the English quartet delivered a defining staple of the Britpop explosion. The notably gentle, highly melodic guitar work leans heavily into classic 1960s jangle pop and Byrds-esque vocal harmonies, completely avoiding the aggressive posturing of their stadium-rock contemporaries. The exceptionally crafted, remarkably smooth debut briefly knocked Oasis from the top of the UK album charts.
