Resurrecting the long-dormant novelty franchise, Ross Bagdasarian Jr. produced 'Chipmunk Punk' to capitalize on contemporary rock trends. Despite its title, the album predominantly consists of pitched-up covers of mainstream new wave and power pop hits by acts like The Knack and Blondie. It proved remarkably successful, unexpectedly going gold and revitalizing the Chipmunks brand for a new generation.
