Album Notes & Community Reviews

Eschewing the gangsta rap dominant on the West Coast, Boots Riley's Oakland-based duo delivered a fiercely militant, Marxist critique of American capitalism for their debut. The heavy, funk-laden boom-bap production serves as an undeniably rhythmic platform for insightful, satirical takedowns of systemic racism and economic exploitation.
