The debut album from the Irish quartet was produced by Stephen Street, known for his work with The Smiths. Initially, the album saw little commercial success, but a subsequent US tour supporting Suede and the heavy rotation of the single 'Linger' on MTV helped propel the band to international fame. The album's themes primarily revolve around the pains of first love and betrayal, drawn from vocalist Dolores O'Riordan's personal experiences.
