Album Notes & Community Reviews

The Chicago husband-and-wife duo introduces their deeply gothic, narrative-driven vision of alternative country on their debut, 'Odessa'. While noticeably noisier and more reliant on standard alternative-rock guitar distortion than their later acoustic work, Brett Sparks's rumbling baritone and Rennie Sparks's macabre lyricism are already firmly in place. It offers a fascinatingly raw, heavily electric glimpse into the genesis of the revered Americana act.
