Album Notes & Community Reviews
Serving as their final album for Motown's Tamla imprint, 'Soul on the Rocks' captures The Isley Brothers straining against the label's restrictive hit-making formulas. While featuring classic Holland-Dozier-Holland compositions, the group imbued the tracks with a grittier vocal intensity that hinted at their impending independent funk era. Unhappy with their standing at the label, they soon departed to establish their own legendary T-Neck Records.
