Album Notes & Community Reviews

Following the massive success of 'Please Mr. Postman', 'Playboy' solidified The Marvelettes as Motown's premier girl group during the label's formative years. The album highlights Gladys Horton's tough, blues-inflected lead vocals set against the increasingly polished, punchy arrangements of the developing Motown Sound. It serves as a crucial document of the label's transition from raw R&B to highly orchestrated pop domination.
