Album Notes & Community Reviews

Marking a massive leap forward for British modern jazz, 'Celebration' introduces Mike Westbrook's ambitious, large-scale compositional vision. The deeply textured big band arrangements provide a structural framework for fiery, avant-garde improvisations from legendary soloists like John Surman and Mike Osborne. The recording successfully synthesizes the sophisticated orchestration of Duke Ellington with the chaotic freedom of the 1960s avant-garde.
