Goths
by The Mountain Goats
Continuing his streak of highly specific conceptual albums, John Darnielle crafts an entire record exploring the fading subculture of 1980s goth rock. Notably, the album was recorded entirely without the use of guitars, relying instead on lush Rhodes pianos, synthesizers, and jazzy woodwinds. It is an incredibly empathetic, surprisingly mellow reflection on aging out of youth movements and finding suburban compromise.
