Through This Fire Across From Peter Balkan

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Structured as a full-on musical, 'Through This Fire Across from Peter Balkan' is a concept album detailing the struggles of shipwreck survivors plagued by apocalyptic visions, a narrative that originated from a dream by frontman John Darnielle. Produced by multi-instrumentalist Matt Douglas, the album features a sophisticated and theatrical sound, with lush arrangements of strings, woodwinds, and harp, and guest vocals from Lin-Manuel Miranda. The record also marks a pivotal moment in the band's history as their first in over two decades without longtime bassist Peter Hughes, to whom the project is dedicated.
