Following the departure of their original rhythm section, Kip Berman guides the Brooklyn band toward an incredibly bright, pristine indie-pop sound. Stripping away the thick, fuzzy shoegaze distortion of their previous work, the album highlights crystalline guitars, prominent synthesizers, and unapologetically sweet vocal hooks. The polished shift leaned heavily into the aesthetics of 1980s sophisti-pop and jangle.
