Launching their 'American Composers' series, the enigmatic San Francisco collective dedicated this bizarre release to the works of George Gershwin and James Brown. The A-side features drastically reconstructed, dissonant medleys of Gershwin tunes, while the B-side presents a meticulously exact, note-for-note recreation of a James Brown 'Live at the Apollo' performance, rendered entirely via primitive synthesizers and drum machines. It is a wildly conceptual, deeply surreal exploration of American pop history.
