Operating as a dense, cynical concept album examining violence within the hip-hop community, the legendary Philadelphia crew delivers their shortest and darkest full-length. The production frequently abandons standard hip-hop breaks for classical piano interludes, free-jazz drumming, and avant-garde vocal choirs. The incredibly grim, cinematic approach solidified their transition away from their live-band rap origins toward complex, album-oriented art music.
