From the Lions Mouth
by The Sound
On their second album, 'From the Lions Mouth', The Sound refined their approach with a more polished, layered, and powerful production courtesy of producer Hugh Jones and new keyboardist Max Mayers. Lyrically, Adrian Borland moved toward more introspective and existential themes, confronting personal anguish and inner turmoil with a defiant energy that distinguished the band from the pessimistic wallowing of many post-punk contemporaries. Though it was critically lauded upon release for its masterful synthesis of atmosphere and songwriting, the album failed to achieve commercial success, cementing its status as an influential and revered cult classic.
