Album Notes & Community Reviews
Abandoning the infectious blue-eyed soul of their earlier hits, Paul Weller's ensemble delivered a remarkably challenging and polarizing suite of modern classical and avant-garde jazz pop. The deeply cynical, politically charged lyricism and complex orchestral arrangements alienated much of their pop fanbase while remaining a fascinatingly uncompromising artistic pivot.
