Album Notes & Community Reviews

Continuing their pioneering foray into socially conscious rhythm and blues under the guidance of producer Norman Whitfield, this project features expansive, cinematic arrangements. The magnum opus of the record is the sprawling epic 'Papa Was a Rollin' Stone', which utilizes dramatic strings, driving wah-wah guitars, and intricate vocal interplay to tell a gritty urban narrative. It stands as a definitive triumph of Motown's experimental era.
