Album Notes & Community Reviews

Designed to establish The Temptations as a sophisticated act capable of playing prestigious supper clubs, 'In a Mellow Mood' completely eschews Motown's R&B formula. The album consists entirely of orchestrated pop standards and Broadway show tunes, prioritizing their pristine five-part harmonies in a traditional pop context. While polarizing to soul purists, it successfully broadened their appeal to older, affluent audiences.
