Album Notes & Community Reviews

Further defining his visionary 'spacegrass' aesthetic, the acoustic guitar virtuoso expertly blurred the lines between Appalachian folk traditions and complex jazz improvisation. The ensemble navigates breathtakingly intricate, entirely instrumental arrangements featuring John Reischman's fluid mandolin work and Todd Phillips' mandolin interplay. 'Backwaters' is universally recognized as a masterpiece that permanently expanded the harmonic vocabulary of modern bluegrass.
