Album Notes & Community Reviews

Drawn from performances in Paris and Milan during a highly successful 1961 European tour, this extensive double album captures the pianist's definitive quartet featuring saxophonist Charlie Rouse. The ensemble handles Monk's famously angular, rhythmically complex compositions with astonishing fluidity and forceful, driving swing. The enthusiastic international reception documented here was crucial in establishing the composer's enduring global legacy.
