Album Notes & Community Reviews

A masterpiece of modern post-bop from one of the most lyrical and thoughtful trumpeters in jazz. 'Sail Away' is a showcase for Tom Harrell's immense talents as both a composer and an improviser. The music is beautifully crafted, with memorable melodies and sophisticated harmonies. The interplay between Harrell's warm flugelhorn and Joe Lovano's adventurous tenor saxophone is a highlight. The album is a perfect example of the elegant and deeply melodic acoustic jazz being made in the late 1980s.
