Album Notes & Community Reviews
Featuring a dedicated tribute to Polish cinematic masterpieces, 'Matka Joanna' finds legendary trumpeter Tomasz Sta艅ko delivering a deeply atmospheric, highly emotional set for ECM. The quartet masterfully balances the unrestrained freedom of European free jazz with haunting, remarkably spacious lyrical restraint. The record stands as a stunningly moody, brilliantly executed example of 90s avant-garde chamber jazz.
