Stepping slightly out of Fela Kuti's massive shadow, the architect of the Afrobeat drumming style leads the legendary backing band through his own set of dense, polyrhythmic compositions. While Kuti contributes saxophone and vocals, the focus remains squarely on Allen's incredibly fluid, independent-limb drum architecture. The record showcases a slightly looser, more subtly jazz-inflected variation of the ferocious Nigerian groove.
