Touch

Album Notes & Community Reviews

On 'Touch', their first album in nine years, Tortoise embraces both grand gestures and meticulous refinement, creating a diverse set of compositions recorded across three different cities. The album synthesizes the band's foundational elements of jazz ambience, motorik krautrock, and complex rhythmic interplay with explorations into cinematic spaghetti western themes and hand-cranked techno. While some critics noted a disjointed feel due to the long-distance collaboration, others praised the album's concise, tightly edited tracks that balance a cool, precise production with the band's playful and improvisational spirit.
