Dubnobasswithmyheadman

Album Notes & Community Reviews

'Dubnobasswithmyheadman' documents Underworld's critical metamorphosis from synth-pop act to electronic music pioneers, marking the recording debut of DJ Darren Emerson alongside founders Karl Hyde and Rick Smith. The album fuses the propulsive, layered rhythms of techno, acid house, and dub with Hyde’s enigmatic, stream-of-consciousness lyrics, which were influenced by American literature and his own cross-country travels. This innovative hybrid of club-focused production and traditional song structure, which also integrated guitars, established a new artistic and commercial benchmark for the album format in 1990s dance music.
