Serving as the final studio album to feature vocalist Sammy Hagar before his explosive departure, the legendary hard rock quartet delivered a noticeably darker, more introspective record. Eddie Van Halen's signature guitar virtuosity is firmly intact, but the songwriting leans heavily toward mid-tempo, remarkably polished stadium ballads and AOR structures.
