Conceived as a conceptual reflection on the avant-garde architecture of the Pompidou Centre in Paris, 'Beaubourg' relies almost exclusively on atonal ring modulation from the Yamaha CS-80 synthesizer. The aggressively abstract, ambient-industrial textures mark one of the most uncompromising and experimental phases of Vangelis's career.
