Album Notes & Community Reviews
A magnificent example of sophisticated, deeply orchestrated Chicago soul, 'Speak Her Name' features Walter Jackson's impossibly rich, resonant baritone. Working with producer Carl Davis, the arrangements envelop his dramatic, vulnerable phrasing in sweeping strings and pristine horns, avoiding raw R&B grit in favor of elegant melancholy. The record stands as a towering achievement of 1960s orchestral soul balladry.
