Album Notes & Community Reviews
'Dare to Be Stupid' solidifies "Weird Al" Yankovic's formula of pairing direct pop parodies with meticulously crafted original songs that imitate specific genres and artists. Under producer Rick Derringer, the album pivots between satires of mid-80s icons like Madonna ('Like a Surgeon') and The Kinks ('Yoda') and impressive style parodies, most notably the Devo-esque title track and the Elvis-style doo-wop of 'One More Minute'. The album’s synthesis of sharp lyrical wit and versatile musical performance confirmed Yankovic's cultural footprint beyond simple novelty, earning a Platinum certification and a Grammy nomination.
