Album Notes & Community Reviews

Produced by Creed Taylor, this release showcases the legendary guitarist deeply embedded in the lush, heavily orchestrated aesthetic that would eventually evolve into smooth jazz. 'Down Here on the Ground' features Don Sebesky's sweeping string arrangements blanketing Montgomery's impeccable, thumb-picked octave melodies. Though criticized by purists for its commercial leaning, the album was immensely successful and highly influential on pop-jazz.
