Album Notes & Community Reviews

Released shortly after the legendary guitarist's sudden death, this posthumous album controversially overdubbed lush string arrangements over previously unissued live recordings from the 1965 Half Note sessions. While the rhythm section of the Wynton Kelly Trio is partially obscured by the studio additions, Montgomery's fluid, masterful improvisations still cut through brilliantly. It represents a fascinating, albeit compromised, collision between his aggressive club playing and the commercial orchestral aesthetic of his later career.
