Album Notes & Community Reviews

Ryan Adams's immensely influential North Carolina ensemble debuted with a remarkably raw, intensely alcoholic fusion of traditional honky-tonk and ragged alternative rock. The remarkably unpolished production perfectly frames Adams's deeply cynical, world-weary songwriting and the group's highly authentic, fiddle-driven Americana instrumentation. The critically lauded release was a massive foundational pillar in defining the sloppy, deeply emotional aesthetic of 1990s alternative country.
