Album Notes & Community Reviews
Featuring an immensely talented but notoriously under-recorded flugelhorn specialist, this session is heavily bolstered by the brilliant saxophone work of a young John Coltrane. The compositions, many leaning heavily toward subtle African-inspired rhythms and structures, provide a lush, slightly exotic backdrop for the leader's incredibly warm, rounded tone. It remains a fascinating, deeply swinging document of a highly promising musician whose career was tragically curtailed by illness.
