Album Notes & Community Reviews

Recorded with the Stax studio band in Memphis, Wilson Pickett's breakthrough utilizes a delayed backbeat and sharp, punctuating horn arrangements. His gruff, gospel-derived vocal shouts drive the syncopated rhythms, defining the muscular aesthetic of deep southern soul.
