On their second album 'Chairs Missing', Wire moved beyond the minimalist punk of their debut to explore more developed and atmospheric song structures, incorporating psychedelic textures and art-rock sensibilities. Producer Mike Thorne was instrumental in this shift, adding layers of keyboards and synthesizers that created the album's characteristic icy, avant-pop sound. The combination of abstract, often unsettling lyrics with a broader musical palette established the record as a crucial and influential work in the evolution of post-punk.
