Album Notes & Community Reviews

Compiling essential mid-1940s sessions originally released on Decca, 'Blue Prelude' showcases the fiery, deeply swinging power of Woody Herman's First Herd. The arrangements bristle with aggressive brass and the leader's own blues-drenched clarinet and vocal contributions. The album captures the frantic, transitional energy of big band music just prior to the bebop revolution.
