Album Notes & Community Reviews
Bridging the gap between deeply swinging post-bop and intense, progressive avant-garde experimentation, the phenomenal trumpeter's debut for Contemporary Records is a masterclass in modern jazz composition. Supported by an incredibly robust ensemble including pianist George Cables and saxophonist Bennie Maupin, the arrangements are highly complex, navigating modal shifts and fiery improvisation with absolute precision. The recording cemented his status as one of the most vital, technically brilliant voices of his generation.
