Legend of the Jivaro

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Conceptually rooted in highly stylized, Hollywood-ized narratives of Amazonian headhunters, this ambitious project perfectly encapsulates the grandiose theatricality of the exotica genre. The legendary Peruvian vocalist pushes her staggering, multi-octave range to bizarre extremes, seamlessly transitioning from subterranean growls to piercing bird calls. The incredibly dense, percussion-heavy orchestral arrangements by Les Baxter ensure the record remains a definitive, wildly dramatic peak of the mid-century high-fidelity lounge craze.
