Mambo!

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Capitalizing on the mid-century Latin dance craze, 'Mambo!' finds the Peruvian soprano venturing into lively Afro-Cuban rhythms under the orchestration of Billy May. Yma Sumac utilizes her famous multi-octave vocal range more aggressively here, producing distinctive growls and piercing highs that elevate the standard brass-heavy arrangements. The record stands out as a vibrant intersection of high-camp Exotica and authentic dancehall energy.
