The debut album from Yo La Tengo captures a band heavily indebted to the jangle pop and Velvet Underground-inspired sounds of the mid-80s American underground. Ira Kaplan's incredibly earnest, slightly amateurish songwriting blends warm acoustic folk-rock with ragged, distortion-heavy indie rock. 'Ride the Tiger' is a highly melodic, bittersweet, and highly energetic foundational text for the legendary indie institution.
