Album Notes & Community Reviews

Riding the momentum of their surprise Mercury Prize victory, the Edinburgh trio delivers an urgently political and brilliantly chaotic fusion of gospel pop, aggressive electronic noise, and lo-fi hip-hop. The provocative title directly addresses complex racial identities, while the sonics maintain a deliberately blown-out, overloaded intensity. The resulting energy is an incredibly vital, unclassifiable hybrid of modern protest music.
