Algiers

Algiers is an American band that forges a unique and intense sound self-described as dystopian soul. Formed in Atlanta, Georgia, the group combines the fervor of gospel and soul with the abrasive textures of post-punk, industrial noise, and experimental rock. Their politically charged lyrics confront themes of colonialism, racism, and systemic oppression. After signing with #Matador Records#, they released their acclaimed self-titled debut, 'Algiers', in 2015. The subsequent addition of drummer *Matt Tong*, formerly of *Bloc Party*, solidified their lineup, further developing the potent and cathartic energy found on albums like 'The Underside of Power' and 'Shook', which feature collaborations with artists such as *Zack de la Rocha*.
