Andrew Love

Andrew Love

Andrew Love was a tenor saxophonist who, with trumpeter Wayne Jackson, formed the core of The Memphis Horns. [1, 2] He began his career at Stax Records in 1965, where his full, warm tone combined with Jackson's precise trumpet to create one of the most influential horn section sounds in popular music. [1] This duo defined countless recordings for Stax artists like Otis Redding and Sam & Dave before becoming an independent entity. [1, 9] Their signature arrangements, a blend of raw soul and tight phrasing, were later sought by a vast range of artists including Elvis Presley, Neil Diamond, and U2, fundamentally shaping the role of horns in soul, rock, and pop.
