Biography
Trondheim band Atrox began in 1988 as Suffocation, renamed themselves in 1990, and spent a decade becoming one of Norway's strangest metal acts. The death-doom of 'Mesmerised' gave way to the avant-garde 'Contentum' and 'Terrestrials', driven by Monika Edvardsen's theatrical vocals. A second incarnation, fronted by Rune Folgerø, delivered the industrial-edged 'Binocular' and 'Monocle'. Guitarists Eivind Fjøseide and Rune Sørgård, present since the debut album, anchor a catalogue that treats progressive metal as a licence to experiment.
