Biography
Scottish funk and soul band formed in London in 1972 by Alan Gorrie, Onnie McIntyre, Hamish Stuart, Robbie McIntosh and saxophonists Roger Ball and Malcolm Duncan, the Dundee Horns. On #Atlantic#, 'AWB' (1974) and its instrumental hit 'Pick Up the Pieces' reached number one in the United States. Steve Ferrone replaced McIntosh, who died in 1974, and albums such as 'Cut the Cake' and 'Soul Searching' followed. Split in 1982, AWB reformed in 1989 and played a farewell tour in 2024. Their grooves are among the most sampled in hip hop.
